A Facebook user claims a fake voting centre has been created at the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) headquarters in Congo Town, Liberia.

According to the page with more than 8,000 followers, some political parties including CDC and her allies, have similar voting centres.

This fact-check report will seek to verify the accuracy of this claim.

Background

Over 2.4 million registered voters in Liberia are expected to take part in a general election that will see them vote for a President, Senators, and House of Representatives on October 10, 2023.

The democratic electoral process has been marked to take place at 2,080 voting precincts and 5,890 polling places, according to data from the National Elections Commission, Liberia.

The incumbent President, George Oppong Weah, will be contesting 19 other candidates for the Presidential mandate, whose tenure is for the next six (6) years.

Fact-check

The Liberia National Police has dismissed the claim as FALSE.

Responding to the claim that the secret voting in one of the political party’s headoffice has resulted in the arrest of a lady, the Spokesman of the Liberia National Police,  Moses Cater said: “The information is false”.

The Spokesperson explained that he contacted the two police zones and stations around the location, and none have confirmed the arrest of any lady carrying on secret voting activities at the PLP Headquarters.

“I have contacted the two police zones (3 and 5) and stations around the location, and none of them have confirmed the arrest of any lady carrying on secret voting activities at the PLP Headquarters,” he asserted.
