Fact-check

To authenticate the claim, FactSpace Gambia found a longer version of the viral video featured in a news broadcast by QTV, a Gambia-based Television station, on May 15, 2025, a day after the 5-second version started circulating online.

In the broadcast posted on QTV’s Facebook page, the President is reported to have visited the 18th Edition of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (GCCI) International Trade Fair, which took place in Bijilo.

During a media engagement, President Barrow said, “As a government, we will continue to support the Ministry of Trade. We will continue to support the trade fair so that we can sell Gambia. Gambia is a very peaceful country. Very democratic country, for that matter.

“Selling Gambia is not very, very difficult, but we have to showcase what Gambians can do and what we have been doing and how we are progressing, and we are seeing that happening. So I think the sky is the limit. We will encourage the Chamber of Commerce and to continue doing more.”

FactSpace Gambia noticed that the 5-second video in circulation is a snippet of the full interview of President Barrow.

Verdict

Therefore, the claim is misleading.
