GhanaFact, through its WhatsApp Chatbot, has received an image showing popular Nigerian pastor Enoch Adeboye wearing an Islamic veil.

The image submitted by a user depicts the Christian leader as a Muslim pilgrim in Saudi Arabia. In the background of the photo is the Kaaba – the Holy House Muslim pilgrims visit in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

This fact check seeks to verify the authenticity of the photo.

Fact-check

GhanaFact started with a forensic analysis of the image. When it was submitted through InVID Verification Application – a web-based integrated toolset for journalists, we found strong evidence that it was AI-generated.

In-VID analysis showed 85% detection, indicating that the image was synthetic.

Using Google Reverse Image Search, GhanaFact found out that the image was shared many times on the internet between December 2024 and January 2025 (here, and here).

Additionally, GhanaFact found that the pastor, who is the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) – one of the popular mega-churches in Nigeria – had responded to the viral photo, noting that it is AI-generated.

“I’m sure many of you saw on the internet how some people used AI to generate a picture of me looking like an Alhaji. How many of you saw that one? The Lord said, ‘Mockers will be louder and more aggressive this year than ever before.’ But unfortunately, Daddy says many of them will not survive this year,” Adeboye is quoted by local media reports to have said. (find here, here and here).

Verdict: The image is AI-generated and therefore misleading

NB: This claim was submitted by a user of the GhanaFact WhatsApp chatbot.
