During the discussion,Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that Lagos has only two neighbours – the Atlantic Ocean and Ogun State. He made the remark while interjecting Bwala’s reference to Oyo State as Lagos’ neighbour.

“By the way, it’s not neighbouring, it’s after the neighbour. I (Lagos) have only two neighbours, Atlantic Ocean and Ogun State,” he said.

Something big is here!!!

What really drives Lagos? Governance, infrastructure, security, transportation, housing, economy, politics, and the future.

This fact-check will verify the claim that Lagos is only bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Ogun State.

Fact-check

Our checks show that Lagos State is bordered by three neighbours including the Atlantic Ocean to the south, Ogun State to the northeast and the Republic of Benin through an international border to the west.

The Lagos-Benin border is known as Seme border and stretches about 60 miles, located in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State.

An article titled ‘Climate Change Impacts in a Rapidly Growing Urban Region – A Case Study of Ikeja Lagos Nigeria’ from Research Gate mentioned that Lagos is also bordered by the Republic of Benin through the west. Other Nigerian States like Lagos also share a border with Benin Republic. These include Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Niger and Kebbi States.
