FactSpace West Africa facilitates information disorder sessions for UG and UniMAC-IJ

FactSpace West Africa has facilitated a number of trainings for tertiary institutions in Ghana, focusing on the broader area of information disorder.

In late June and throughout July 2025, personnel from FactSpace served as guest lecturers in two separate classes at the Department of Communication Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon.

In two separate virtual sessions for Level 100 students, on June 30 and July 7, 2025, FactSpace West Africa’s editor, Alfa Shaban, delivered a combined four-hour session looking at information disorder in the first session and information verification in the second session.

The course lecturer, Dr. Jade Ampomaah Appiah-Lartey, emphasised the importance of information integrity, hence the need for budding journalists and communication students to be exposed to the area of information disorder and how to combat the same.

The Executive Director of FactSpace West Africa, Rabiu Alhassan, on July 15, 2025; also facilitated a New Media class on information disorder for final-year Diploma students (regular) of the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ). 

The session focused on the importance of budding journalists, learning about the information disorder ecosystem while leveraging industry experience to confront challenges that fact-checkers serially face in their work. 

The second part of this session, for the final year Diploma students (weekend), took place on July 20, 2025, and was handled by Alfa Shaban. Course lecturer Nathaniel Alpha encouraged students to take a keen interest in the information disorder space due to its growing influence in public discourse.

On July 24, 2025, Samuel Adjetey Adjei, a research associate with FactSpace, also facilitated two fact-checking sessions as part of the ‘In-depth Journalism’ course for final-year diploma students. 

The course instructor, Mr. Desmond Lamptey, emphasised the importance of students being exposed to first-hand experience from people on the frontline of fighting information disorder.
